Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my misadventures in life for all to enjoy.

Practical Advice For Going Through A Miscarriage

In no particular order:

  • Put your hair back in a pony tail or braid if it is long. There will be sweat and there will be blood, and it's best not to get it gunked up in your hair.
  • Wear old clothing and underwear. I somehow got blood on my socks and hospital ID band. You never know where all the blood is going to end up.
  • Have a heating pad or hot water bottle handy. It can help if the pain is not too severe.
  • Have an old towel or potty pads for you to sit on before you start to bleed heavily. If you wait, you might have already leaked onto whatever it is you are sitting on.
  • Wear pads, not a diaper. You need to be able to gauge how much blood is coming out.
  • Have cleaning supplies, bleach wipes for example, nearby to wipe blood off the toilet, the floor, or anything else you night get blood on.
  • When taking your pants off to check or change your pad, do it up against the toilet and press down on the back of your pants to make a ramp going back into the toilet. This makes all the pooling blood and possible blood clots slide into the toilet.
  • If you go to the hospital, try to sit near the view line of the nurses. That is what helped me to be brought back into the ER quickly when I became so very dizzy.
  • Be kind to and thank the hospital personnel. It's the right thing to do, and you will receive better and more prompt care.
  • Try your hardest to have a family member, friend, or significant other to be with you through the roughest part of your miscarriage. If you have to, get a few people to agree, so if your first choice is working at that time, you have a backup. Just having someone to be there for you, listen to your complaints, and to go fetch you things is amazing.
  • Try to think of some things in advance. Do you love a certain type of tea? Make sure it's stationed somewhere easy to get to. Do you like to meditate? Have everything you need ready and waiting. In fact, try to have anything you feel you might need as handy as possible. It will help, and if you don't need/use it, you just have to put it back later.
